Clean Crew

Greasing the keel lifting gear bearing has given me a couple of issues. 1 I am concerned about dirt ingress into the bearing sticking to the grease and damaging my nice new bearing. 2 I think there is a good chance that I or my family are going to get grease on bedding and clothes.

I have overcome both concerns with my simple and ver cheap bearing cover. I made the cover from an old spray paint can top and it works really well. The cover sits on the top ring of the thrust bearing and is clear of the housing so turns easily with the lifting screw.

Picture of the cover attached.
