Website use!

Post by whiteede » Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:35 am

Help! In desperation i am trying to contact the website management to clarify why i can't email pictures. There are a number of anomalies affecting my input:
1) sometimes i am shown as a guest, other times as registered
2) each time i try to mail via 'contact us' i get a Mailer-Daemon failure notice saying; 194.154.164.152 does not like recipient. Remote host said 550 550 user unknown.

Here is the text of my last Email attempt:
Greetings shipmates
I am trying to personal email with images to other forum colleagues and keep getting a message akin to 'your personal image allowance is full'. However, on my profile it reads that my upload quota is about 5% and that I have no gallery images at all although in the gallery entry itself I have presently 8 pictures.
As this seems to be nonsense and very frustrating can you provide me with guidance please?
Regards

The world of internet fora is seemingly beset by permanent problems when it comes to posting images.

I think the best way to guarantee that the folks you want to get to see the pictures actually get to see them, ( if you haven't already) is to register for Photobucket at http://photobucket.com/ , then just paste a link to the photos as required.

There are grown men and women , the world over, tearing chunks out of mouse-mats with their teeth in frustration in exactly the same circumstances :)

& there's another question. Why the Christmas smilies ?

There is also Picasaweb, aservice run by google, andthey are payng themselves by advertising,I hope the service will survive for a long time.

I experienced also problems with this type of free service in the past...
  • It was free, with incredibly large disk space... but once the disk spacewas well used, I received ane-mail stating that the free hosting would be discontinued within 15 days, and I had to pay to hold my pictures on line. And when one doesn't have a credit card, or money immediatelyavalable, everything was lost.
  • Another problem is that URL's of the picture may be like http://pictures.myhosting.com/pic.php?id=29etg580 and these are not recognised as image formats, so the picture is not displayed properly
  • And sometimes they are changing the URL structure, so all images in the fora areno longer displayed...

Now I turned to my own web space, it's cheap and I'm totally free to manage it as I want to...

Hi Phil
I'm trying to contact Andy, the site owner, to see if he can sort out your problems. Unfortunately, I have not heard from him or my fellow moderator (Chris Grey) for some time and I only have limited control of editing etc. If and when I hear from him I'll let you know.
Regards Terry

PS For the time being, can you not just attach to pictures to the end of a message in the forum?

Hi Phil,

I will investigate this issue for you.

Please can you tell me what operating system and web browser you are using?

Thanks

Andy

Thanks for your reply Terry. If my understanding of attaching images to the end of a message in the forum, this is exactly what I am trying to do but getting the 'full up' comment. each message I have sent (or tried) is re-shown reviewed with the pictures automatically removed. I welcome your input and hope for some further understanding. I have managed to place further pics in the gallery but have given up for the moment.
Cheers
Philip

Hi Phil,

I have now fixed the 'Contact Us' link. In an effort to reduce spam I had inadvertantly broken it :-(

Regarding the problem of sending pictures as attachements. How large are the pictures? I have set a maximum attachment size of 1MB.

Thanks

Andy

Greetings Andy
I note your later Email but thought that I would inform you of my system. This is a recent computer running Vista home premium and on broadband via BT. I normally use Google.

Website use!

Post by whiteede » Sat Oct 04, 2008 12:30 pm

Hallo again Andy, you see I am looking at Emails one by one! I have only tried to attach 1 or 2 pics of c.380kb each and this has been blocked each time by the 'allowance full' response. This seems to me to be a basic problem in that I have very few pics on the gallery and my profile says that I am using 5% on my allowance.

Philip

Hi,

Please can you try sending your pics again bearing in mind the following:

When posting to the forum a message can have a maximum of 3 attachments
not exceeding 1MB in total.

If sending a private message only 1 attachment is allows with a maximum
size of 512KB (I have just increased this from 256KB).

If your problem still occurs, please can you email me directly (
andy{at}gargoyle.org.uk ). In your email can you attach the images you
are trying to send and provide sequence of steps you are following to
send them.

Thanks

Andy
