Is a Ford C max 1800 within the legal limit of trailing a Swift 18 with a break trailer., or do I have to go and buy a 4 wheel drive something? Also launching on slips? Thanks Bob

Hi Bob,

Check your car manual which should tell you your maximum towing weight for a braked trailer.

You'll need to take boat and trailer to a weighbridge to check it out and it may pay to empty boast into car before trailing.

I use a Renault Scenic 1600 which feels to be on the limit, but I only do 20 miles per year when the roads are quiet.

Cheers John

I use a Passat 1.9 tdi (2007) has no problem towing and doesn`t feel like the boat is in charge. Just be wary with tyre pressures and ensure boat gives tow hitch some nose weight. Mine tends to be stern heavy on the trailer so I pack anything inside to the bow which makes for stability. If you do not have enough nose weight the car will wander which can be very scary!

Hello,
I towed my swift 350 miles with a 1.7 cdti Vauxhall Meriva last month, It is on the edge of the weight limit but it towed fine. I plan on getting a 4wd instead of my work van for launching on beaches and shallow slips etc.

John.
