Origo stoves aka Cookmate

Post by Brio » Tue Jan 04, 2011 11:10 am

The gas stove had to go. It dosn`t comply with any regulation and replacement was going to cost an arm and a leg. So I went hunting for an Origo and found this.

Cookmate and Origo are both still made by Electrolux. With the new VAT it`s £172 plus £8.50 p&p which is better than Compass 24 by £10 without p&p.
I also found a stainless canister single burner with Flame failure device. At Marinestore £54, or the identical stove from Roadking for £27.50! Even has the same logo!

The Origo

And finally three months later. armed with cardboard, ruler. tape, scissors and pencil, I got in Brio to make the cooker housing larger. I didn`t want to cut the inboard end of the moulding as it carries the `compression post` so went for the hull end. Having made a template, I drew round it on the housing, measured it and looked at it for a fair while! It`s not nice taking a jigsaw to something sooo expensive! However it went very well and my new fine tooth metal blade didn`t shatter the gelcoat . I cut the shape out in pieces and using a second new blade in molegrips for the bits the jigsaw couldn`t reach made a close fitting shape into which the stove fits. It needs some stainless heatguards and then it`s tea time! When it`s done I`ll post the template shape on the site with photos - how sad!
