Rutland Rally Anyone?

Post by AFG » Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:21 pm

Hi There.

There are a lot of Swift 18 sailors on Rutland Water either at the Whitwell Day Sailing Centre or at Rutland Sailing Club. There are also quite a few Swift sailors within an hour or two's drive of Rutland Water.

Hugh and I - who together own Swift 079 Samphire - are based at the Sailing Club and were wondering whether there would be any interest in having a bit of a Swift Rally one Saturday or Sunday during the summer.

RSC has great facilities and we could use the club house for briefings, lunch or even an evening meal. And for those coming from elsewhere slipping is easy using one of our three cruiser slips. Use this link to have a look: The Water ... http://rutlandsc.co.uk/cms/index.php; and the Club House ... http://rutlandsc.co.uk/cms/index.php?op ... &Itemid=80. For those who didn't want to sleep aboard, there are good value rooms in the clubhouse.

As for the format - well if there is interest, I'd put something forward for discussion but say something like this:

>> Assemble at 10.30 on Saturday for briefing
>> Then a morning sail of some sort (Southern leg and church?)
>> Lunch
>> Afternoon sail of some sort (Northern limit and back?)

Some attendees could even (while cruising colleagues were doing something else?) indulge in a little light racing if anyone was so inclined.

>> Anyone who wanted to could stay overnight could do so and also have another sail on the Sunday morning before leaving mid afternoon.

If there is interest in this idea - even from only 2 or 3 boats - I'll approach the club and get a few suitable dates when there are no large Open Meetings for racing dinghies.

Comments? Suggestions? AOB?!

Cheers,

Tony Gray

Rutland Rally Anyone?

Hello

Sounds interesting, especially since Quadrille, now on Windermere, is s/no 60, most probably a near sibling of Samphire and under a previous owner sailed with Rutland Sailing Club under Temporary Membership No 1936 as from July1988 before finding a subsequent berth near Southampton.

Weekends of June 19th and 26th or are not on for me. Despite having ‘out-laws’ at Melton Mowbray, I’d be interested in, say, a Friday and Saturday accommodation for two nearby.

Please keep me in the loop pro tem.

Geoff Cook

Hello,

I'd be interested in that as long as I can get the relevant weekend off! Still finishing an extensive refit at the moment but will hopefully will have the boat ready soon and was planning on a visit to Rutland to make sure she floats ;)

Rutland Rally Anyone?

That sounds like a great idea! We could not bring Rondonay, having sold the trailer, but could  bring our Broads Dinghy and hope it doesn't rain.

Hi All,

My boat is sail 177, Webley and I'm based at Whitwell on Rutland, opposite side to the sailing club so provided I'm available on the chosen weekend then I'm up for it.
