Got a spinny on ebay for 40 quid but now need to work out how to rig
it. Dimensions as per the excellent information on this site (13'
foot with 20' sides). Florian came with a pole so we are halfway
there.
Sheets/guys I intend to run to blocks clipped on the aftmost slot of
the toerails and thence to cleats midway along the cockpit. Anybody
feel able to offer a recommendation on length/size for these lines?
What about downhaul and topping lift for the spinnaker pole? There
seems to be no fixings on our pole to attach any lines to the
midpoint. I suppose I could just bend a line to the middle of the
pole using one of those tricky knot things. The uphaul will I
suppose run round the sheave midway up the mast but what about the
downhaul? There doesn't seem to be anywhere obvious at the base of
the mast to take a line whose lead angle might vary by 180 degrees?
Whiles looking at the base of the mast ... There are two small cam
cleats mounted horizontally each side of the tabernacle with a small
turning block mounted vertically in front of them. These look to be
designed to take lines running up and down the mast back through the
cams to the cockpit. One each side. What are these for? They are
not required for halyards as our main halyard exits a slot in the
mast travels down to a turning block mounted a foot or so below the
slot and then up to a cleat on the side of the mast. The spinnaker
halyard has a similar arrangement on the other side of the mast.
Love some advice on all of this as I am keen to try out the new
toy. Has anybody any favorite sites when shopping for blocks and
ropes?
Simon.

Hi Simon,
See my message No.670.from when someone asked about
spinnakers before. The books suggest bridles from the pole ends to
attach the uphaul & downhaul, but I've got a fitting in the centre
which clamps round the pole with a ring top & bottom.
