Lake district saling

Post by shaun » Tue Sep 16, 2008 7:45 pm

Hi,
I have just bought my first boat (Red Admiral) and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advise on trailer sailing in the lakes (i.e. where to launch, help with lifting mast, moorings, cost etc). I currently sail her in the north sea just off Sunderland, but wish to trail her to different places.

Hi Shaun
I'm based at Fairfield Marine on Ullswater with Vega, which belongs to http://www.uccmp.co.uk/
The slip is a bit tricky because its only concrete to the waters edge, then drops away quite steeply, ok for launching but harder to recover!! Next door is http://www.ullswatermarine.co.uk/ They do all launches & recovery for you, for a fee of course!
There are a couple of slipways that belong to campsites and a public slip at Glenridding see http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk/ for details and also at Glenridding is http://www.glenriddingsailingcentre.co.uk/
The best slip on the lake belongs to http://www.ullswateryachtclub.org/
I'll be bringing Vega home at the end of September, but if you need any more info or help next season then don't hesitate to get in touch.
Hope this helps
Rob
