Does anyone know where you can get hold of new bushes for the rudder gudeons, or is it a case of drill a bigger hole and use a larger diameter stainless steel pin?

I removed the old nylon bushes (the outer diameter should be ok) and had new ones made made up by a local, small engineering firm. I used the rudder stock pin to give the internal measurments. I think I paid about a tenner for the six of them.

Thanks Terry, I'll get the hammer and drift out next week end, did you get them made in nylon or a softish metal?

I had them made up out of nylon (that plastic breadboard stuff.) I had them made up by a little firm called BBH Engineering in Bangor but I'm sure any small engineering company would do them.

Terry - just to let you know , i followed your advice, turns out one of my neighbours is in the food industry and uses nylon rod all the time, so we knocked up some bushes on his woodturning lathe. worked fine, can't believe the difference, she turns on a sixpence now.

Funny you should say that. After having two bushes made professionally, I too, knocked a further two bushes on a Black & Decker wood lathe drill attachment which worked just as well.

Hi there, I have just had my rudder welded and needed to replace a bush at the bottom. I bought some 200mm long nylon rod with a 14mm diameter and had a friend drill it for me and reduce the diameter very slight and that worked. Hope that helps.
