Antifoul the keel?

Post by storm » Sat Feb 21, 2009 11:50 pm

Anyone got any bright ideas how to antifoul the keel?
I cant think of any simple way without getting the boatyard to do a lift off the trailer with their crane.
Nearly ready to go for a sail

For the past three years I've used a trolly jack, some RSJ's and a teetering pile of concrete blocks to raise Seren up to do the keel but you need to be brave!
You can just about see the set up in the attached pic

Antifoul the keel?

Post by jjspicer » Sun Feb 22, 2009 3:04 am

I had to have mine done in the boat yard. One important thing to remember is to get maximum coverage of your keel you will need to antifoul it with the keel both up and down. There is a small area at the top that is very hard to get too.
I have added a picture called Keel Up in Wickeds photo gallery that shows what I mean.

Thanks guys,
Countdown is in a boat storage place, even assuming I was as brave as that to do your circus trick, I cant get the bits there to do that, if only it was in my drive.
Looks like its do a launch and crane it out at the end of the year for a wash scrub and paint.

I have just done a deal with the boatyard.
They are going to lift it with a couple of slings with their adapted fork lift truck on Saturday for the morning for £35. That seems a reasonable answer in the circumstances.

Keel a real Success

Well that was really easy. They left me alone for an hour with the boat hoisted high
The boatyard had a great bit of kit for liftup, I had greased up the mechanism through the inspection hatch, but I was surprised how good the screw and bush operated, no play and nice and smooth. I feel very confident about the condition of the keel now.
Slapped some antifouling all over myself and as a bonus got some on the keel and the bits I couldnt get to with the rollers.
I reckon that was a good £35 pounds worth
