Guard rails/stanchions

I have done this with the back end to prevent the mainsheet from chafing when the boom is all the way out and it works great and makes getting on and off the boat easier too. At first I was concerned this might be a safety issue but it seems to have worked OK.

Its a lot easier having a pee over the back with a pushpit!
As for the lot, personally, I wouldn’t consider buying a swift with no push/pulpit or rail. It’s bad enough going up front on a small boat in a big sea without such things. I sometimes crew on a thirty-six foot gaffer with no rails and I can tell you it can be pretty unnerving at times. Have you considered what this may do to the resale value?

I have fitted clamps just before the 1st stanchion aft to maintain the tension, and quick release clips to the end of the guard wire. It makes getting on and off really easy but retains the safety under way.
I suppose you coud do a similar thing for'ard?
