Hi,...I think most people end up using tape,!! The white plastic ones wear through quickly as the mast is raised and lowered to avoid bridges (in norfolk anyway) They only hold the cable in place, and help to reduce wear on the end of the spreader. regards mike in windy norfolk

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that, as i wont be lowering the mast much i thought that i would put on the plastic boots as it seemed a more secure fitting.

Regards David.

Any tape that I stick on seems to come off after about one days sailing. I tried using the stuff supposedly sold for the job but it wasn't any better. Can anyone suggest a brands known to work?

Well yes, the Duck tape works for me. I put quite a lot on and take it round the ourside of the shroud as well as around the spreader and in the groove. It acts as a binding as much as a padding and stays on .
