Rigging lengths?

Post by Brio of Hamble » Tue Jun 12, 2007 9:27 pm

I was looking at the guide on the site on how to set up the standing rigging and realised I need to know the approximate lengths of the shrouds and stays to get the tensions right. I wonder if someone could let me know :)

I d'no! I used the method in PBO which doesn't require lengths. At about 20 degrees of heel the lee cap shrouds should just begin to slacken and back stay tension should bend the mast about one diameter's worth. To do this you need to be lying on your back looking straight up the mast whilst an assistant applies tension. As for rake, I believe the swift was designed to be set at zero. I found that I got too much weather helm when I tried raking further back, although in very light airs maybe I get a little lee helm (y' pays y' money I suppose).
