Swift Launching Time

Hello everyone,

I am pleased to say that I have just become the latest member on the forum, the new site looks great and I have found the old site very informative.

My father and I are seriously thinking about purchasing a Swift 18, we are based in Belfast, but will most likely purchase in England. Unfortunately we have not had the opportunity to view a Swift "in the flesh" however judging by the specification and forum comments, a swift would be perfect for our needs.

Whilst researching the Swift 18, I came across a previous post in the forum (message 390 swift18.org) in which the author stated that the swift 18 takes about two hours to launch, i.e from a trailer and a similar amount of time to pack away again.

Can someone please clarify if a launch time of two hours is accurate?

This has given me some cause for consideration, as summer sailing after work would therefore not be an option.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great Christmas.

Stephen

Hi Stephen

The time is taken raising the mast attaching the sails and generally getting sorted out. If on the other hand you can leave everything rigged then it only takes minutes, just like launching a big dinghy. It's even easier if there is a pontoon or landing stage to tie up against while you park the trailer and car.

Will you be able to leave the boat rigged ?

I tried without a mooring in my first season but it took just too long to launch (I always cocked it up unless I took my time, usually a good two hours!) To give some idea whats involved I've attached my boat check list. This is personal to my situation, some things others will do differently. Simon (simonandtanjabaker) keeps his boat in a boat yard and launches on the day but he can keep his mast up.
