John, The boat is moored to the bank when raising or lowering the mast, not under way. I have a pole & block & tackle to raise & lower it. See picture which was taken on the shore as you can see but I could just as easily be on the water with me on the foredeck.
Hope this helps.

Hi Martin, There are signs everywhere telling you where you can & can't moor on the broads, personally I look for the quieter spots where you arn't surrounded by large cruisers! Hunters Yard on Womack water only allow yachts. You should have no difficulty with Potter Heigham bridge in a Swift. Try t...

Hi Mike, What type of rope are you using for the jib sheet? I had no probs with my old worn (matt/fluffy) sheet but when I replaced it with new (shiny) sheet, the coils on the winch started riding over one another & off the bottom of the winch, particularly on the starboard side! they were also star...

Cucumber Mods.
Sean. The diagrams for the mods to Cucumber Sunbeam were in a file called 'Odds & Mods' in the newsletter section of this site. However the link to that file dosn't seem to work anymore (Andy please note!) The file is once again too big to attach here or to PM you. If you PM me your email I'll send ...

Dan I have my log/depth transducer on the back of the skeg on Vega. It seems to work ok close to the prop like that, I get similar readings under sail or power. I agree with Terry, I don't think it would work in the well itself. Of course there are no holes through the hull for it as the cable is le...

Kevin, The easy way to keep the boom out of the way & to one side when not sailing is to unclip the mainsheet from the cockpit floor & clip it to the toe rail either side. Assuming you've got a proper topping lift & not just a strop from the backstay. Mine lives there at all times when not sailing, ...

Kevin I think you'll be lucky to find a secondhand spray hood, You'll probably have to go for new. These people do kits http://www.martexmarine.com/ http://www.boatcoversuk.com/sprayhoods.htm. I think the original Swift table fitted between the leg that you have and a bracket on the bulkhead below t...

Hi Mike, I've every intention of flying it single handed! I've been using my old symetrical spinny with pole single handed, like Dave only in light winds. I,m hoping this will be easier once I,ve got the controls set up. How is yours rigged Dave? Have you got a 'tack line' led back to the cockpit? D...
