Swifts in Norfolk

Mike has a lovely little Swift, we saw her out on Saturday.
So. There is Rondonay, Little Cracker, Red Mist, at least on the Northern Broads.
Martinet was in Horning but has gone, and there is at least one at Cantley.
This has the makings of a proper fleet!
Anyone up for a Broads Rally next year?

Norfolk

Hi Mike

Sitting headroom in the 1/4 bunks must be about 3'. Plenty enough for an adult.

tiller uphaul and downhaul

Thanks John, The rudder is fine, in fact, but I think I will play with the uphaul a bit more. We were asking a lot on the occasion I mentioned, 3 in the cockpit + a 20kg leisure battery that was sitting there waiting to be moved to a more intelligent place! Hope you get sorted with the keel. Keel Winding

We followed the advice on here and installed a ball race in the winding mechanism about 18 months ago. The difference is really significant! We also had a 'stopper' fitted to stop the winding off problem, I'd advocate both. :)

Rudder Thoughts

Hi All Just back from a few day's 'ditch crawling' on the Broads. Rondonay was fine except for a couple of upwind tacks in light airs where she fell off the wind and needed a gybe instead. My question is related to the rudder. Lots of Broads boats have 'fat' rudders rather than straight up and down ...

Outboard Motor Vibrations

Hi The lid vibrates a lot so we put a pad under its edge, between it and the stern locker for security, this reduces the noise a lot! PS We are heading for the boat on Tuesday. Norfolk Broads

Oh dear, I am so sorry I missed this thread, been mega busy! For future Broads sailing, here is the best advice I can give. 1 If you are there in peak season, plan to arrive at busy places like Horning in the early afternoon to be sure of a mooring. 2. Buy or make a mudweight, (broads anchor) this e...

Genoa block-winch layout

Oh yes, well Catfield is definitely at ‘the shallow end’ try launching at Horning or Wroxham or Stalham, you’d be fine. From: mikeprojectboat ( forum-general@swift18.org ) Sent: Tuesday, April 19, 2011 8:22 PM To: forum-general@swift18.org ( forum-general@swift18.org ) Subject: [Swift 18] Re: ...

Genoa block-winch layout

You are right Mike it does wear the gel coat. I think it would only not rub if the winches were at cockpit level. I guess a free running fairlead set where it chafes would be the best bet. Where are you sailing? Pauline From: mikeprojectboat ( forum-general@swift18.org ) Sent: Thursday, April 14, 20...

Origo 3000 from Compass24.com

Hi Gary, I love our Origo, although I vaguely think it is 2000 not 3000 which is too high. It is clean and easy to use, seals well so does not smell and I feel a lot safer than with gas. I bought the optional extra pot clamps but built my own 'holder' because the gimballs would have been too big for...

Googled! For or Against? Swift 18 Apus Melba Googled

Yes, Rondonay is on the mooring and I just looked over the hedge from the lane to see her. :0) Apus Melba looks very smart! Swift 20

It could be the boat I nearly bought in Ipswich years ago! I can' t be sure of the name at this distance in time. The stern has an extension that could act as a boarding platform and there is a tiny heads compartment to starboard?  I do not know how many were made but I liked the boat a lot, and it ...
