on a mooring
Hi David, I would say that on a deep water mooring you are best advised to leave it down with the tiller tied in a central position. on a mooring
Hi Dave, I leave my Swift on a drying mooring with restricted swinging space. As a result I lift the rudder off. The only problem is that it is heavy so I am experimenting with a marine ply replacement which I can handle. Cheers John On 17/08/2010 09:36, David mclardie wrote: Hi when you leave your ...

Swift 20
Hi Tremayne, Glad to hear that your dad's still at it. I'm 72 and have just got a Swift 20 to replace a Skipper 17. The Swift is far livelier but very stable. I'm using an old Skipper Genoa to save being over-powered by the standard issue Swift genoa and have sailed single handed in 25 knots without...

Funny you should notice that. I now have my Swift on the water and when I get going in a good breeze the water shoots up my leg. One self tapper solverd the problem. How far can one go .... over?
Hi Tony, Useful info, thanks. The more I read the more I wonder about the sail plan. Does anybody know what sail plan the new cruising version will have? I'm not on the water yet but intend to start with one reef and an old Skipper genoa just to get the feel of things. Has anybody come up with an al...

How far can one go .... over?
Thanks Phil, You could have saved me some embarrassing moments. The micro cup spec says a 25lb weight at the masthead and also specifies sufficient bouyancy to float when waterlogged to within two inches of the toe rail. Must admit that stepping up from the Skipper to the Swift is a bit of a challen...

How far can one go .... over?
I hope to have similar problems just after Easter sailing in Poole Baybut intend to practice with a small genoa from my last boat which was a Skipper 17 and taught me a lot. The Swift should be self righting so as a dinghy sailor you should cope. If in doubt round up into wind and put in a reef or t...

Thanks Dave, It's good to know I'll be able to reach my mooring and I take the point about hitting something. rudder stock /rudder blade
Hi Elwyn, Thanks for the info.,all useful. My rudder has two gudgeons on the stock for each gudgeon on the transome so it can't lift. I've solved the slop problem, so I'm going to try it before experimenting further. I've also decided to stay with the original spec. to avoid the possibility of broac...

rudder broken
Hi, I've finally got round to repairing my rudder. A friend has made me a stock but I have two problems, slop in gudgeons and slop in blade/stock. I'm thinking of bushing the pintels and building up the inner sides of the stock to get round this. A further problems is that I have a mud mooring and c...

Hi Gary & Ruth, I'm currently renovating an old Swift- Crian Grad, soon to be renamed Taranaki. I haven't got round to lowering the keel yet but have worked out that if I leave the boat on the trailer on jacks and wheel out the wheels and sub frame it should be possible without a crane.Think about i...
