Hi Kevin, top quality boats fetch around five and a half k and mid range just over 4k. You may well see boats a lot cheaper than this but in this price bracket the fears you talk of may well be realised! Regarding things to look out for, have a look at the downloadable check list in the for sale sec...

The bottom of the inspection cover is below water level so the short answer is yes. I believe these covers are readily available in most chandlers.

I have never had a problem rigging my boat solo and provided you have a suitable ‘A’ frame you should be OK(plenty of advice under the mast erection heading). Although in theory it takes about an hour to rig a swift, I’m usually still faffing around 2 hours later. Getting the boat out on your own is...

I use both bungie & tiller pilot, the latter is for the swifftie that has everything else! Quick jobs like reefing and raising the keel I use the bungie but the tiller pilot is more useful for long boring bits under motor. I did manage to get the bungie to steer the boat unaided for 5 miles on one o...

St Denys Sailing and Rowing Club

Ive just received the following enquiry can anyone help. Terry Dear Swifts, Our club is looking for a new trailer sailer. My father had a Swift 18 and I suggested one for the club. Our problem is that we are at the top of the tidal Itchen in Southampton , upstream of a few bridges, and need a boat w...

Generally, I agree with last two posts. About three grand for a tatty one and five and a half for a tip top one (2 grand reserved for complete wrecks.) I have the big genoa and have it full up to the upper end of force 3. She’ll round up quickly once the toe rail starts to reach the water. I sail ar...

I've Just received the following email. Can anyone through any light?

Hi,
Just found your web site and wondered if you knew what happened to the moulds for the 16.5 ft explorer which was also a Swiftcarft build.

Yep, I've washed mine twice now. Standard 40degree wash with no problems. I had some big rust stains on them so I took a risk and rubbed in that gel stuff that gets rust off gelcoat before I put them in and it worked just fine.
Must be tough stuff!

I use a 5w flexi panel which I've had for 5 years. I just use it to top the battery up when the boat's moored and use a charging coil when I'm motoring. These are my only power sources over the summer and the only time I've had a flat battery is when I left the gps plotter on for a fortnight. My ele...

Re: ENGINE SIZE

Dam, If I'd remembered your gizzmo at the NW boat show I could have bought the Honda 5hp for the special offer price of £750. Are they using camels yet to pull the ploughs? Hi all, If anybody is interested, could make a grp insert to increase outboard engine bay.?(small blister insert in the stern we...

Re: Outboard Well Size -

As I understand it, Tohatsu's & Co come in Standard, now called Short (17"), long & Ultra-long. The old short shafts (15") are no longer produced (which is a pity.) Mine is the shortest 17" sail drive job.

[quote="gff_cook"]Many thanks. Is your enw engine short or standard shaft?

Re: Outboard Well Size -

I only fitted the new motor just before our "Swift regatta" last week so modifications are still in development as yet! I'll take a Photo of the cover and the stand next time I'm down at the boat. Hello Terry Do you have photos/dims of your transom and cover mod? Geoff From: Terry [mailto:forum-outb...

Both myself and inventor Simon (Arabesque) have made a wooden stand that fits in the cabin snugly between the keel box and berth so that the engine can be stored vertically (as recommended.) I've, also, drilled a small hole in the companion way pillar so I can tie it in place. In addition, I have a ...

I've just purchased a 5hp Tohatsu (which is the same as both Mercury & Mariner just re-badged.) It's true that the 4, 5&6hp engines are all the same with different carburation and I've seen 4's upgraded 5hp on ebay but, if you try it, the manufacturers won't touch the engine when anything goes wrong...

Its a lot easier having a pee over the back with a pushpit! As for the lot, personally, I wouldn’t consider buying a swift with no push/pulpit or rail. It’s bad enough going up front on a small boat in a big sea without such things. I sometimes crew on a thirty-six foot gaffer with no rails and I ca...
