Cost of new sails?
I had quotes from Suffolk sails Woodford and Jeckels both around £600 for a main! Living in the west country I tried Westaway and R&J at Clevedon in Somerset both at £400 for a main in first rate white cloth. Colour was similar price but shorter lasting material. NEW BRONZE WINDING GEAR /OUTBOARD INSERT
As you say Mike, with the age of boats I would d also be interested although mine seems ok, just a bit loose on the thread for now. Probably the whole shebang is sensible. worrying crack appeared
Following my purchase of my 1984 boat Nuestro I noticed a repair in the same area but only around the foot of the keel box. My boat drys out these days so I will have a look at it asap. I have not yet heard of it as a design problem though it is beginning to feel that way. sorry I dont have a pictur...

mast rigging
My topping lift works via a sheave at the clew end of the boom, then through the boom to a forward cleat. The lift cable itself is wire running up to a fixed pin next to the backstay connection. I didnt know that any were rigged conventionally. I might change mine as it a right bug ger to get lift v...

Trailer 'guide' question
I have left them in place travelling but they have left a depression on one side of the boat. Clearly they need cushioning. Headlining - tidal mooring
Greetings Tony. I have no leak problems with my 1984 boat headlining although some of it is now loose above the window. Re: tidal issues I bought my Swift with an original position outboard transom, which is disturbingly low. A deep propeller position is inefficient and i have a drying out mooring. ...

jib unfurling difficulty
Thanks to all who have commented and helped, especially Rob, Mike and Terry. I now seem to have found the main problem, bizarrely, and it is working ok for now at least! On my next unfurling the rotastay jammed so I went forward and gently tried turning the rig whilst looking up and down the tube. T...

Hallo again Andy, you see I am looking at Emails one by one! I have only tried to attach 1 or 2 pics of c.380kb each and this has been blocked each time by the 'allowance full' response. This seems to me to be a basic problem in that I have very few pics on the gallery and my profile says that I am ...

Thanks for your reply Terry. Help! In desperation i am trying to contact the website management to clarify why i can't email pictures. jib unfurling difficulty
Thanks very much Mike. This is one aspect I have yet to investigate and might achieve this tomorrow. It has totally confused me to tighten shrouds to max and still have a slightly slack forestay tube. Only extreme backstay tension gives a reasonable tautness for unfurling. I have noticed from pictur...

jib unfurling difficulty
Now sailing my 'new' 1984 aquisition i am having trouble unfurling the jib . It is getting stuck about halfway, although then turning the forestay by hand one turn is easy and continuing on by the line. Furling is not a problem. I did not not disconnect the forestay head when we lowered the mast for...

Thanks chums, that does confirm the validity of the weld. I will have it looked at when she comes out of the water sometime this winter.

Weld line to mast
Having just purchased and trailered a 1984 Swifty i have made close contact with the mast head end. There is a weld line each side from the head plate downwards but no sign of this apppearing to be a repair. I presume that other early tapered masts have this reinforcing? feature. My actual concern i...
