Re: Which outboard in well with no mods
An update on this, I decided to chop in my old Yamaha 4HP Long Shaft 2 stroke (4AC) and replace with a Yamaha F5 4 stroke, took the carrying handle off (2 Bolts) fits into the well great, no issues, the standard shaft model is more than adequate. External & internal fuel tank as standard, I also had...

Re: Which outboard in well with no mods
Warning Guys & Girls be careful the latest 4 stroke Honda 4,5 & 6 Models definitely do not fit in a standard Swift18 well, I have more info & drawings if you want them. The latest F4, F5 or F6 Yamaha will fit if the rear carrying handle is removed. Although the well closure flap may interfere with t...

Approximately 30ft or 9.15 metres, BUT depends on your actual draught/displacement or mast mods etc this is based on the original Holt mast set up. If I were you I would allow at least 0.3m or 1ft safety clearance Elwyn Williams email :- elwyn.williams@hotmail.co.uk This e-mail contains information...

Swift 18 User Guide
Sorry to the rain on the parade but as one of the few original owners around SO16 from new when it came to “setting up” there was no user manual it was very much “learn as you go” there was a typed note on how & what to use to clean the boat but that was about it. I have a slightly different view to this one, Apus Melba’s outboard well hull hatch Is virtually a full hatch flap with nothing more than a three or 4 finger slot removed on it’s leading edge (as standard) made from the same material as the surrounding hull aperture. The purpose of the flap was to r...

Centre board dropped off end of screw URGENT HELP!
Yes you are on the right lines, beach the boat, obviously bow 1st remove covers to centreplate housing to take any upward pressure off the rest of the winding gear, if you are lucky it has just unscrewed off the thread. If you can get a rope or even better a strop under the lifted keel. As you are i...

A word of caution if I may, many years ago when my swift (Apus Melba) was about 18 months old I was returning to the Hamble from Cowes, 4 well built persons on board in heavy weather, (We had to get back to college otherwise probably would not have chanced the crossing) However I digress, Having mad...

Can the swift 18 been trailered and rigged single handed
Hi, I have been trailer / sailing my swift for the past 25 years (not as much as I would like to but as allows, As a youthful 20 something when I got my swift I found it a struggle but possible to raise the mast, rig, ship the loaded rudder, outboard & the rest. But now? hmm, I would definitely say ...

Flooded boat and now foam buoyancy tanks full of water HELP
Not Sure if this helps - depends when built I believe. When mine (S016) was 1st launched had one of John Charnley's builders come and have a look as it appeared it was possible for water to enter the keel (Skeg) void from the area just in front of the outboard well in the lockers, the fix was to fib...

the only way I can think of checking this is when the boats were manufactured by JCA they scribed the Waterline marks into the outer gell coat layer, I would attempt to level off the boat on these marks & then check the cockpit sole level. My best guess is that the Cockpit floor has a slight gradien...
