Hi Gary, Ruth & Skip Happy days. Like you, I look back fondly to my Seren days. There's a lot to be said for cheap trailer sailing! Didn't Cherry pie look smart then? Still, summers will soon be here. We must meet up again. Terry Hi Gary / Ruth Yes you always have fond memories of your first boat we ...

Hi Andy While on the subject, two issues arise: I have noticed that there are now quite a number of duplications of boat names on the register and suspect they are, in most cases, the same boat under different ownership. In the past, as a moderator, I have tried to sort this problem out but found ...

She's left me
Today I ended my 6 year relationship with Seren. I can't help thinking that I've done the wrong thing. I've had a lot of fun with her over the years. I only hope that Mike (her new purchaser) will get as much out of her as I did. Still, life goes on and so my attention can turn to my new boat Sassa ...

Hi Simon & Jannet Don't say that, it makes me feel a traitor to the cause! As it happens, my new boat has Jeckels sails and a stack pack. I've not sailed it yet as it's stuck in Dartmouth for the winter. One thing I have noticed is that the pack seems a bit on the short side and about a foot or so ...

Re: Furling Jib
If it were mine I'd want to have a look at it first before shelling out for a new furler. 5 years ago my furler jammed. It turnedout to be a shreded forestay and a rigger friend of mine sorted it for about £30. Terry Hi, Happy New Year to one and all. My furling jib has stopped furling due to some ...

Berths in South Devon
|Received the following email. Can anyone help? "Hi, I am considering purchasing a Swift 18, but finding a berth is proving to be rather difficult. Would it be possible to ask your membership whether they know of any suitable berths in the South Devon area? Thank you for your assistance. Kind ...

Re: want to buy a swift 18 - need your opinion
Hi Phil, after reading your points about mico’s cruisers target AVS as 105 I came across a calculator for AVS on www.sailingusa.info/cal__avs.htm and decided to key in a swift’s data, derived from JCA brochure, which was as follows; Displacement weight (1450 lbs) Ballast (375lbs) Beam (8 foot) Draft ...

Re: Trap door
Hi Kevin, Yes there should be a hatch which surrounds the outboard leg. It stops a lot of the outboards wash from being diverted into the well. I'm in to my second so far. The screws tend to vibrate loose and then you notice its disappeared. I've scoured the gallery for pictures and the best one is ...

Re: want to buy a swift 18 - need your opinion
I’m not quite sure whether you’re taking umbrage over my comments but on the issue of swifts being heavy or light these are really subjective terms. It all depends on what previous experience one has had. When I moved from a wanderer dinghy to a swift it felt a massive move up. No doubt if ones exp ...

Actually, the theoretical weight of a swift is supposed to be 660k but when I actually weighed mine at a weighbridge it came out at 720k and, with the trailer, 1120k. I don't think mine is exceptional. I've seen several other boats lower in the water than mine carrying similar amounts of gear and ...
