Guard rails/stanchions
I have done this with the back end to prevent the mainsheet from chafing when the boom is all the way out and it works great and makes getting on and off the boat easier too. At first I was concerned this might be a safety issue but it seems to have worked OK. John On Mon, Sep 14, 2009 at 7:50 PM, a...

Sail sizes - Confusion seems to reign
I am not sure what the dimensilon for my Genoa and main are but Jekells made them and they work great. Another Swift 18 are my club also bought a main from Jekells within the last year and had no complaints. The new sails made a hugh improvement in boat handling for both boats. Antifoul the keel?
I had to have mine done in the boat yard. One important thing to remember is to get maximum coverage of your keel you will need to antifoul it with the keel both up and down. There is a small area at the top that is very hard to get too. I have added a picture called Keel Up in Wickeds photo gallery...

Keel Maintenance Questions
Mark The question of how often the anti fouling needs to be redone is not an easy one to answer. There are two big factors to consider. 1) What was used the last time the boat was treated, some products last longer than others and are for specific water types. 2) Local water conditions are a huge in...

Main Sheet Traveller
I have struggled with the traveller problem as well and I have tried a few of the poormans solutions. Having a line from the boom to the toerail works but not as well as you might imagine. This arrangement applies a lot of downward force which is actually the job of the mainsheet and this just means...

Portable VHF, GPS and Swift's pointing ability
I have replaced my main sail and Genoa and my boat now points into the wind much better. With the new sails I could easily sail away from other Swift 18s in our club races but I have lost that advantage now since other owners have also bought new sails. You have to remember that the Swift 18 is more...

Average Speed
I am thinking about doing an overnight trip to a nearby island and I want to try a bit of proper navigation instead of just relying on my GPS. Having never done this other than while taking my Day Skipper course I am not sure what to use as an average speed. I was thinking something in the order of ...

Try doing a search for "toe rail" on Google and you will find lots of web sites selling various toe rail and some even state they have obsolete products. I'm not sure what the older toe rail you are looking for looks like.

Not sure what RYA handicap I have but I did manage to tie for first place in the Bahrain Yatch club regatta a couple of weeks ago. Between new sails and tuning the rigging we sailed away from the other swift in the regatta on every race.

Mike I would love to have a new rudderand stock but the shipping from the UK to the Middle East would be expensive if it weight much. Using my rudder as to get an idea of weight might be miss leading if it has aborbed water. Can you forward the plans for the stock so I can have a try at making my ow...

Three sails
I have tried sailing with all three sails up. I didn't have my GPS on at the time so I don't know if it helped much but it seemed to help us catch another swift. See photo in the Gallery in the Wicked file.

Slop in rudder
Hi Joe
I have the same problem with slop in the rudder and I have been thinking about either a major repair or building a new one. Since you have now have some experiance in this area I would appreciate any advise you could offer.
