Replacing deck blocks.

Two of my stand up deck blocks, almost certainly original, have started to break up from UV exposure. Has anyone replaced these, and if so what make did you use? I'm loathe to disturb the bases as they don't leak (yet!)

Re: Curious about Swifties demise

Hi All Pleased to see some activity on the site. I think a few very active members left at the same time several years ago! I've had my Swift for 9 years now and still love sailing/overnighting on her. Over that time she's had a new mast, rigging, headlining and cushion foam, a new Yamaha last year ...

Re: Lifting outboard bracket

Hi Pete Its getting to that time of year for.coming out of the water having had some great autumn sailing and time for winter jobs. Are you happy to share your measurements and materials list for your lifting outboard bracket? Its such a neat arrangement and would suit my (occasionally) drying moori...

I sail and have overnighted with a friend who is 6'3 and he was pleased to find he had headroom and could see straight out of the opposite window.
Bunk was only just long enough though!

Headlining fitter.

It's a long story, but following the wild winter we have had to replace our headlining. I had some scary quotes but the job was done by Graham Banyard from Poole in Dorset. (Grahambanyard@BTinternet.com ) So if you want the full works, including new panels, he's charging £900 for the finished job. I...

Axle available

I have just had a new galvanised braked suspension axle made for my old SBS trailer. The company supplying are Autow from Warwickshire, tel 01789 774920. The axle has been designed to pick up all four of the main bearers on the trailer and replaces the leaf springs and axle. (Which on mine had alrea...

The one advantage I do have is there is very little fetch for waves. So although it's been blowing very hard (top speed 75.7 knots at Polruan closely followed by zero for several hours - blown away?) the water has been flat and the worst has so far always been on neaps when she floats. But as soon a...

A winters (tell)tale!

Well it had to be done. Poor old Brio has been sat on her mooring in deepest Cornwall buffeted by endless storms. But yesterday the sun came out and the wind was fair and so with a friend we took her for a spin up Carrick Roads. Two reefs in the main and a partly rolled genoa and we bounded along pas...

I use a Passat 1.9 tdi (2007) has no problem towing and doesn`t feel like the boat is in charge. Just be wary with tyre pressures and ensure boat gives tow hitch some nose weight. Mine tends to be stern heavy on the trailer so I pack anything inside to the bow which makes for stability. If you do no...

Pointing or not

Brio has a very deep genoa. Whilst competing in our local regatta in August we found ourselves classed with PY dinghies. Our first leg was a close reach for most but we had to tack down the river. The committee boat had gone home for tea by the time we finished our second lap! A couple of weeks late...

Who`s got Eeyore?

Whilst sailing (a Wayfarer - Swift still on trailer at home :( ) on the Helford this afternoon, I spied a rainbow sail heading my way and duly got out the camera to take a photo of a Swift heading up the estuary. Said Swift, looking very smart was called Eeyore but I can`t find her on the register. ...

Halyard tension

I have found with mine, (same design as yours) that if you put on too much halyard tension, ie more than just gets the wrinkles out of the luff, you get a lovely bend on the foil which is best viewed from the tiller whilst wondering why you cannot steer upwind as much as you would like! I now tensio...

The Origo

And finally three months later. armed with cardboard, ruler. tape, scissors and pencil, I got in Brio to make the cooker housing larger. I didn`t want to cut the inboard end of the moulding as it carries the `compression post` so went for the hull end. Having made a template, I drew round it on the h...
