Mast lowering

Hi, you should use an 'A' frame to lower the mast otherwise when you pass the 40 degree mark or thereabouts you'll loose control of the mast and it will come down at its own speed.

PM me if you need more advice.

How to change my email

How does one change the registered email for the site. As the RYA is giving up I tried to enter a new email address but was told it was banned!

Forestays

Hi, Yes - I have a sheave in the mast which on a conventional rig would take the Headsail halyard.

The pole uphaul is much lower and is external.

Forestay

Hi,

No, the spinnaker halyard exits the mast above the fixed forestay, my additional halyard exits below the fixed forestay.

Inner Forestay

Hi, The jib is attached at the clew by a single twisted (90) shackle. I already had a sheave in the mast so just rove a 6mm pre-stretched multiplat line through it which then comes through the mast and exits about a foot above the deck and then via blocks to the winch. When I fit the wire halyard I ...

Inner forestay

Hi, yes - I am. I attach the Clew of the sail to the starboard side of the bow-roller and have a second halyard rove through a block just below the forestay mounting. I also mounted sliders on the coach-roof to give some adjustment if necessary. I'm using a rope halyard at present led back to one of...

Genoa whinches

Hi Mike, I've only had the boat since August but straight away decided that those winches were in the wrong place. Over the winter I acquired a pair of Gibb bottom action winches off eBay and fitted them to the side decks. Much better, and they also double for the spinnaker and being bottom-action t...

Hi, I'd go for 13mm (½ inch) ply at least with a 3" overlap around the fixings.

Cheers

Loose feet

Best I tread lightly here and toe the line... My last new sail was loose footed and the new one I've ordered for my Swift will be. I just think that you can get much more control over sail shape with them and therefore power and balance. Make sure that you limit the amount of travel that the clew ca...

Re: New Mainsail

Hi, Just ordered a new main (in time before the VaT rise) from Chris at Ullman's (http://www.ullmansails.co.uk/). I've already got a packaway so that didn't come into the equasion. They made my last main which I had no complaint about. Barry Hello Everyone and Happy New Year to all, from what could ...
