Winches

Anybody serviced their winches?

Am thinking about doing it and didn't want to fill the cockpit with rollers, springs and bits of greasy unidentifiable gubbins ...

Sailing Characteristics

Hi Kevin, I too am a ex dinghy sailor and have had my Swift for a season so far. I wrote a document about buying a Swift based on a lot of info I gleaned from various people at Rutland with lots of experience, including the local Swiftcraft sales agent and former Tech Sec of the fleet. (It's on the ...

Rutland Rally - Could be on!

Hi Everyone,

I've had 4 replies so far all positive, so I'm going to look into possible dates etc. I'll sort it out with the Club this week and put up a suggested few dates asap.

In the meantime if anyone else fancies joining in, please let me know.

Regards,

Rutland Rally Anyone?

Hi There. There are a lot of Swift 18 sailors on Rutland Water either at the Whitwell Day Sailing Centre or at Rutland Sailing Club. There are also quite a few Swift sailors within an hour or two's drive of Rutland Water. Hugh and I - who together own Swift 079 Samphire - are based at the Sailing Cl...

Hi Guys, Yet another Rutland sailor! When we got Samphire, we decided to have a smaller Working Jib cut to avoid this problem - see earlier post. It really works! The one we have is not the small one of around 55 ft sq as in the drawings - see posts elsewhere from me on sail sizes etc - we had one w...

Solo sailing

Hi John, The boat I own with my friend (079) is the about the same age as yours. We sail at Rutland, which although is a large 3000 acre lake (the same as Windemere), behaves mostly like a tideless estuary. Boats obviously differ, but we find that the standard 105 ft sq Genoa is too large if used fu...

SAIL LOGO: Don't forget that the site now has the proper sail logo somewhere but it's only the jpg file and so may not be good enough for your sail maker. If you want the pdf or Illustrator file that they can use let me know.

We've just had a new set of sails from Jeckells - main and genny using a 'cruiser racer' spec for the cut and cloth etc. It cost us £1k. The sails are very good. See elsewhere on the forum for discussion ab0ut sizes etc. We had ours cut to the original sailplan from the designer's drawings. We also ...

Racing - Comparative Yardsticks and Timings

Hugh and I have decided to indulge in a little lightweight pre-beer 'n chips racing on Thursday nights at Rutland Sailing Club. I've seen the various discussions on the forum about Portsmouth Numbers or Yardsticks. So just in case anyone is interested, here's a small table showing how far ahead or b...

Sailing on the Broads

There's been a lot of chat about sailing on the Broads in the Forum and as it's not far away from our base on Rutland Water, we plan to go there for a long weekend or week in the summer as a our first experience of trailing and sailing. I know the Broads pretty well having done the 3 Rivers Race for...

Hi Ed

I may be sailing on Rutland Water this week end - Sunday? so if I see you out there I'll wave. I've always thought Webley was a nice looking boat so its nice to make contact.
