Post about length of mast
I have towed mine behind a land rover (similar height as T4 – 2m) without issue. I placed a spare wheel on the pulpit (maybe you can add a couple of buoys) with the mast on top so that this oversailed the top of the safari hardtop. Over hang ws ok. See pic. Sugar scoop forestay conversion
Same for me. My 1984 Swift has the rolastay forestay and I have had no problems with furling either. The only issu I have imagined? Is that the forestay always seems to be bowed in use. I can’t get it to look taut enough. Philip Nuestro From: CHERRY PIE [mailto:forum-maintenance@swift18.org] Sent: 1...

Which outboard in well with no mods
I have a Honda 5 in my barcky. Just fit tightly and it does sit higher than the cowling. See pics on Gallery2 Album Nuestro. What I like is it will just make against a 6 knot tide in the Teign estuary Devon.

want to buy a swift 18 - need your opinion
Dear Terry, thanks you for your comments, which are and were anyway sound. I was in fact referring to Phil de Troy’s seemingly strange and confusing comments implying that Swifts don’t sail like dinghies, and therefore I don’t know the boats. He has since sent links to French websites showing micro ...

want to buy a swift 18 - need your opinion
I rather take umbrage these somewhat officious comments. In the context of aiding a newcomer by saying a ‘light boat’ I am comparing it with conventional heavier keeled yachts. Also, it is a simple fact and commonly accepted, that Swifts heel readily in a decent breeze, it’s part of their attraction...

Veel groeten Cris Hebben jullie kijken (oh dear, must go into English) at the (British) Swift website - http://www.swift18.org/ It has useful info with a copy of the original sales doc. Basically the Swift 18 is a design originally constructed for the French microcup race contest max length 18 feet ...

re: on a mooring
i can fully agree Terry, my boat is on the teign estuary Devon and i have to hang an old tyre drogue off the back to stop it weaving all over the place. i'm convinced it just wants to sail all the time!

How far can one go .... over?
Thanks very much indeed for that info Phil. Whilst I understand the ref to a high clew/traveller position I am intrigued by the sail design importance given to a low clew, i.e. fairly level foot for efficiency of wind utilisation. Is this too extreme in relation to use on a Swift? Philip ‘nuestro’ F...

Re: how far can one go..over?
From my own experiences I agree with Tony - AFG. The Genny is too powerful to aid quick tacking, or sometimes even achieving tacking, and you certainly round up into the wind from a broad reach in a strong wind (force 6 gust for sure). I am going to have a new jib made but haven't yet checked out ou...

keel lubrication & winding screw
I am fortunate in having a drying mooring which allows me to simply wind the screw up out of the hole when the boat's sitting on the bottom. I then grease it with white grease. However, the oil option sounds interesting and I will give this a go myself.
