Which outboard in well with no mods

Hi everyone Out for a sail yesterday the gearbox failed on the trusty old Yamaha, and I think that's probably the catalyst for me to buy a new motor. I want a new 4-stroke 4hp that fits in the well of my sno 313 boat and to be able to use the lid - preferably without any modifications to transom or ...

Hello Martin and Stephanie, When I bought 313 it came with a smash in the cabin top gelcoat where the gooseneck had slammed down at some point, so I think some kind of precaution is a good idea. The previous owner had an A frame roped to the pushpit for trailing. It has a U shaped top to hold the ma...

some snippets that full text search revealed - apologies for any duplication of info: Yassou was sold in 2006 She was registered on the Small Ships Register 112292 and was lying at Lymington. NL 27, page 25: Aquapus had sail no SO 19. Bob Godard sold it at the end of 1983. NL 5, page 2c: Does captio...

Hi Elwyn, The entry # is irrelevant - it simply numbers the rows. By default the register displays sail number in ascending order. There are options in the drop down boxes top right to display the results in other ways eg by Boat name. As i understand things it's never going to be the kind of defini...

Hi Terry,
there's a picture of a springer spaniel in a life jacket at the back of this month's PBO!

I guess you might need guardrail netting?

winter sail

What with our new baby, I haven't had much chance to sail Aperitif since buying and then finally launching her in October. However, yesterday I had a smashing sail on Coniston. SE F4 gusting F6, two up, one reef in main and half the genoa, we were regularly getting 5.5kt on the log and maxed at 6.5k...

Boom preventer

Hi, and Happy New Year to all.

There's an interesting discussion on the PBO forum at the moment about boom preventers, and I was wondering, do any of you ever rig a preventer when sailing your Swift downwind? If so, how do you rig yours?

Hi, PBO did a test of 10 handheld VHFs in the Jan 2008 issue. The standard horizon HX270E came out best on test despite being substantially cheaper than some other sets. Features they liked included being able to plug in some ordinary AA batteries in an emergency if there's no charge left, dual watc...

Hi Rob, I'm curious what are the bits of cable coming out of the cockpit lockers? It looks like the port hand cable might be the charging circuit from the outboard but it looks as if it's looped to something else when the motor isn't there? Just wondering how you have it arranged as i'm considering ...
